Dropper or spray? Choosing closures for essential oil bottles

For essential oils, the closure is not an afterthought — it is the product experience. The same 30 ml bottle sells differently with a dropper, a spray or a roll-on.

Droppers are the default for therapeutic oils: they deliver a measured dose, keep air out between uses, and read as 'clinical' on the shelf. Spec the dropper length against the bottle height so it reaches the bottom without tipping the pipette.

Spray closures suit lighter blends and room sprays. They atomize the oil finely, which changes how it is used, so choose them only when the formula matches that behavior.

Roll-ons are the fastest-growing format for roll-on perfumes and targeted blends. The ball material matters — glass balls suit oil-based formulas, plastic balls suit alcohol blends.

When ordering, specify the closure family, the finish (GPI size) and the cap color together. The finish must match the bottle neck exactly, and that pairing decides most of your lead time.
